MAEF, Class of 1968 alumni, and RMU Partner Up!

Moon Area High School seniors will benefit from new partnership between Moon Area Education Foundation, the Class of 1968 alumni, and Robert Morris University.

When the Moon High School Class of 1968 graduated, they couldn’t have imagined that their plans for a class reunion in August of 2020 would be undermined by a worldwide pandemic. Thanks to quick thinking and a new partnership between the Class of 1968 and the Moon Area Education Foundation, the class reunion funds will be put to good use. Those funds will now provide eight scholarships to Robert Morris University for Moon Area High School seniors over the coming years.

The scholarships will be administered by the Moon Area Education Foundation under a grant from the ‘Moon Class of 1968, in honor of former class sponsor Joseph D’Andrea.’ Jennifer Daugherty, president of the Moon Area Education Foundation remarked, “This grant is so meaningful to the students of MAHS in many respects. It is from an entire class of former students, it recognizes a much beloved ninety-one-year-old class sponsor known for his tireless community service, and it ensures that eight future Moon Area High School seniors will have scholarship support at our local institution, Robert Morris University.”

Robert Morris University president, Dr. Chris Howard, had this to say, “Robert Morris University is a proud member of the Moon Township community, and grateful for our many partnerships with Moon Area High School. I commend the Moon Class of 1968 and the Moon Area Education Foundation for their generosity in making a college education more affordable for local students.”
